Chapter 13
Auntie's House: "Now," she said, pointing a straight finger at a lone star that twinkled in the sky, "there it is. Make your wish."
Pre-Chapter Discussion Questions
1. When you see the first star at night, do you make a wish?
2. When you wish upon a star, do you usually wish for the same thing? What is it that you wish for most?
3. Do you believe wishes come true?
4. What is the difference between a wish and prayer?
Follow-Up Activity -- Confucius in Calligraphy
On an 6 1/2” by 9” sheet of paper, use calligraphy to write the Confucius quote. Reproduce a copy for each student. Children are to copy or trace the verse on rice paper. Glue the sayings to the center of 8 1/2” by 11” black construction paper to frame the verses.

1. At home, for which chores are you responsible?
2. What kinds of things can you do better than most others?
3. What is it that your Mother tells you that you are good at? Father? Teacher?
Follow-Up Activity "Celebrate Me"-- Balloon Bouquets
For this activity, you will need six balloons for each student and the same number of plastic drinking straws. Begin by asking each student to make a list of the things that he/she does exceptionally well. Examples: fast runner, pianist, can speak Spanish. Each student is to blow up and tie six balloons. Using permanent markers he/she is to list his/her six most exceptional skills. Attach each balloon to one end of a plastic drinking straw. When finished, each student will have a balloon bouquet celebrating him/herself.
